THE PROBLEM

In recent years, Malaysia has been increasingly recognizing the critical issue of food waste and its impact on the environment and society. According to a report by the Solid Waste Corporation Management (SWCorp) in 2019, Malaysia generated approximately 15,000 tonnes of food waste daily, equivalent to 16% of the total waste produced in the country. This alarming figure has prompted various initiatives to address the issue. In response, the Malaysian government, along with non-governmental organizations, has launched public campaigns and educational programs to raise awareness about the consequences of food wastage. Furthermore, the Global Hunger Index of 2021 reported that 9.9% of the population in Malaysia experienced moderate to severe food insecurity, highlighting the urgent need to reduce food waste and enhance responsible consumption practices. Through collaborative efforts with local communities and businesses, AIESEC in Sunway aims to promote sustainable practices, such as food composting, repurposing workshops, and food donations, to alleviate food scarcity and mitigate the environmental impacts of food waste.

Over the course of four exciting weeks, we're not just hosting any ordinary events.
