The Story

The Problem

Around 90% of the homeless population in Malaysia consists of citizens of the country rather than foreigners. The primary factors contributing to homelessness in Malaysia are lack of employment opportunities, insufficient income levels, and instances of domestic abuse. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, homelessness has escalated into a widespread predicament, affecting approximately 20-30% of urban residents. These individuals lacking homes are confronted with an absence of dependable financial support to uphold their way of life. Their main focal point revolves around securing sustenance for their day-to-day existence. When an individual is deprived of adequate and ample nutrition, coupled with frequent or prolonged illnesses, they encounter malnutrition. This can manifest in several ways including wasting, stunted growth, being underweight, and deficiencies in essential nutrients.

The homeless community requires more substantial assistance compared to other societal groups.

- Homelessness poses a more severe and immediate issue, demanding urgent aid to fulfill the basic necessities of these vulnerable individuals.

- Contributions in the form of donations can play a pivotal role in providing these essential requirements and sustaining their existence. This assistance has the potential to reinstate their sense of self-respect, self-value, and optimism for a brighter future in terms of their overall well-being.

The Solution

The Assembly School Kitchen (T.A.S.K) operates as a non-profit organisation, functioning independently with the dedication of volunteers. This organization focuses on aiding the homeless and those experiencing hunger, mainly within the Klang Valley region. Its inception began with a small group of volunteers who prepared food using excess vegetables from their own homes. Consequently, half of the donations received are channeled towards covering the expenses associated with creating nourishing meals for the homeless communities.

The Impact

For every RM10 donation, you will be providing nourishing meals for those in need. It's worth noting that there is no minimum donation, and you can donate an amount lesser than RM10 if you wish, any contribution helps! You may donate directly via the Giving Hub platform. My goal for this fundraiser is to raise a total of RM250.
