What if the seemingly innocent act of tossing out leftovers had ripple effects that reached far beyond the kitchen?
My name is Sue Yin and I am a new member of the Malaysia Youth Volunteer (MYV) for the Clean Our Plate 10.0 project in Sunway University.I am fundraising for this campaign as there has been staggering evidence of environmental impact of food waste, including the substantial greenhouse gas emissions generated by decomposing food in landfills, which poses a major threat to our beloved planet's health. Furthermore, the fact that while food is being wasted, millions of people around the world go hungry every day fuels my determination to ensure that food resources are distributed more equitably for social justice.
Food wastage evokes a mix of emotions within me that range from frustration to deep concern. Every time I see perfectly edible food being thrown away and wasted, it's like a tug at my heart. By supporting us, we can all aid in directly reducing the strain on our environment as less food that ends up in landfills, the fewer greenhouse gases are released during decomposition, leading to a cleaner atmosphere. Moving on, food wastage is not only an environmental concern but also a deeply ethical issue. Every meal that goes to waste represents an opportunity lost to nourish a hungry person. By supporting this cause, you're sending a message that we cannot stand idly by while others go without. The targetted amount I hope to achieve for this funraiser is RM 250, even with just RM 5, you can play a big part of the solution.
