According to a publication by the World Health Organization, “1 in 3 women worldwide have been subjected to either physical and / or sexual violence in their lifetime - either by an intimate partner or non-partner”.
A 2019 YouGov Omnibus survey of more than 1,000 respondents found that in Malaysia, 9/10 cases of sexual harassment go unreporterted. The biggest reasons why survivors do not make a report and choose to suffer in silence is due to 54% of the victims fearing embarrassment while 38% of them thought that no one would actually help them. The survey also revealed that at least 56% of Malaysian women have experienced at least one form of gender discrimination. In addition, according to a survey conducted by Ipsos Malaysia, there are 44% of malaysians would put the blame on women for the sexual harassments that occur in Malaysia. Not to mention that All Women Action Society (AWAM), a non profit organization highlighted that, Malaysia has waited for more than 20 years to table the Sexual Harassment Bill so that all spaces can be safer and more inclusive for women.
Due to these issues, women and girls in Malaysia currently feel that they are not adequately protected under Malaysia's current legal system. Specifically, they are not aware of their personal rights and therefore do not understand how to actively advocate for better gender equality. This ultimately ushered in a rise of several NGOs dedicated towards the constant fight and empowerment for women's rights. Namely AWAM, the All Women’s Action Society, is one of the many great organizations that have been working on supporting women in crisis and leading the battle against greater gender-based violence across Malaysia.
What is AWAM?
ALL Women’s Action Society (AWAM), is an independent feminist non-profit organization, established in 1985. To sustainably and holistically address gender-based violence (GBV), AWAM provides free counselling and legal information services to all survivors regardless of gender, conducts public education and outreach initiatives to increase awareness about GBV, as well as works directly with government agencies and ministries to advocate for policy change.
However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and Movement Control Order (MCO) has exacerbated and reversed efforts achieved towards gender equality. With the increased risk of domestic abuse and threatened source of incomes, many women, especially vulnerable women in the B40 group, has reportedly suffered an increase in domestic violence cases and financial crises. AWAM needs greater public support via donations in order to support their missions in not only reaching out to more surviviors, but also spreading greater public awareness about gender-based violence.

Our Identity
AIESEC is the world's largest non-profit youth-run organization. It is an international non-governmental not-for-profit organisation that provides young people with leadership development, cross-cultural global internships, and volunteer exchange experiences across the globe. The organization focuses on empowering young leaders to make a positive impact on society through actions.
Our Vision
AIESEC strives for Peace and Fulfilment of Humankind's Potential as an organisation.
In today’s context, ‘Peace’ does not necessarily mean only avoiding war. Peace can symbolise a world that does not have conflicts that arise from cultural, religious, or other aspects of differences in humanity. Peace can also symbolise being in harmony with yourself. AIESEC strives to build a world where people can work towards their own understanding of peace while respecting and understanding the views of others.
Through Fulfilment of Humankind’s Potential, AIESEC strives for a world where people can be the best version of themselves.
Our Action
We place our confidence in youth because they have the passion, dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit that are needed to shape the future. They have the responsibility to improve tomorrow by choosing who they will be today. Hence, AIESEC is a platform for young leaders to run projects that are aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to ensure its relevance to the local community needs. We aim to be part of the solution for a betterment of Malaysia.
