In Aid to B40 Women Entrepreneurs

The Story

Greetings! I'm Shun Yin, a volunteer from AIESEC in Sunway working on the Women's Spirit project supporting the United Nations' SDG Goal 5: Gender Equality. AIESEC holds this project with the collaboration with Women of Will(WOW). This non-profit organization aims to empower and aid disadvantaged women in Malaysia, their families, and their communities. 

Here's a little background story of the B40 women entrepreneurs:

The outbreak of COVID-19 caused the Malaysian Government to implement the Movement Control Order (MCO), which has an impact on particularly the B40 community.

Many women entrepreneurs from the B40 income group who pivoted to selling their products online during the first lockdown in 2020 have grown disheartened as business flagged this time around. In addition, the extended lockdown has seen many of them struggle to hold on to their business as consumers' drastically diminished purchasing power has impacted sales.

B40 Women Entrepreneurs face difficulties such as:

• monetary challenges (lack of business capital)
• inadequate knowledge to sustain and grow their business
• stiff competition
• balancing responsibilities as an entrepreneur, spouse, mother, and many more
