The Story

Hello! I am Myra, a digital media and communication student studying at Monash University and a passionate volunteer for "Action For Equality" (AFE) by AIESEC in Sunway. AFE aims to raise awareness in Malaysia and to support women's rights organizations. Being a part of AFE, we are also raising funds for AWAM (All Women's Action Society) - which is a non-profit organization that also helps empower workplaces by providing sexual harassment and prevention training. AWAM also provides free counseling and legal services even in hard times such as the pandemic we are going through regardless of gender, race, and ethnicity. 

Being a female in Malaysia has been a dangerous journey for me apart from reading articles on rape cases, period checks in school, and public rape even with many people around, which already scares me enough but what made it worst was being cat-called in public because I wore shorts since it's hot, getting cigarettes' burns on purpose by middle-aged men was traumatizing for me growing up in this country. I do not want anyone to experience this which is a matter of utmost importance on why we should start taking action. I sincerely hope that this campaign and fundraiser will be the first few steps we take together to bring equality closer into our lives.
