Clean Our Plate - Race Against Hunger

THE PROBLEM

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many have been laid off or took pay cuts. Income in Malaysia is at an all time low and families who live paycheck to paycheck are struggling to put food on the table. In February 2021, unemployment has doubled compared to just three moonths earlier according to UNICEF.The pandemic has worsened food insecurity and many low income families are financially pressured to consume a less healthy diet, thus contributing to malniutrition. In addition, the pandemic's impact on the agricultural sector on a global scale has caused food prices to rise 1.4% in 2020 compared to 1.2% year to year in Malaysia according to the Star. B40 households and families headed by those with disabilities are fighting a losing battle in preventing starvation.

THE SOLUTION

Clean our Plate is a 4 week project by AIESEC in Sunway that advocates responsible consumption.Throughout these 4 weeks, we will be conduction a crowdfunding campaigh that aims to provide food for underpriviliedged families in Bandar Sunway, Selangor, Malaysia. The money will be used to purchase groceries and necessities for these families, especially those who are unemployed. Through these donations to soup kitchens, low income families will be able to consume proper healthy food and survive throughout these difficult times.

THE IMPACT

Clean Our Plate aims to donate food to soup kitchens around Bandar Sunway to assist underpriviledged people who are facing hard times due to the pandemic. We also aim to increase awareness regarding food waste and how every portion wasted could have gone to someone in need.
