THE PROBLEM
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, many underserved communities such as refugees, urban poor and rural poor have lost their income due to the Movement Control Order (MCO) and decline of financial performance as a whole. In addition, many of them do not have the necessary infrastructure (such as hygiene supplies and digital devices) and online knowledge to generate income via online platforms.
THE SOLUTION
SERUM aims to expand our Buy&Impact initiatives via our SERUM eCommerce Program. The purpose of the SIM Grant application is to empower the 3 selected refugee communities that SERUM is working with to become online entrepreneurs by selling impact-driven products through the SERUM eCommerce platform.
The funds will be utilised to:
(i) maintain the SERUM eCommerce online platform for 2 years;
(ii) provide digital infrastructures and internet access for the communities;
(iii) provide upskilling initiatives to the communities to empower them with the necessary skills to become online entrepreneurs and;
(iv) marketing the community-made products to generate sales.
THE IMPACT
3 refugee communities with more than 30 artisans will be empowered to be online entrepreneurs and generate their income via SERUM's platform.
Goal Breakdown
Goal 1 - Hand sanitisers . Amount Needed: MYR3,250.00
Goal 2 - Face masks. Amount Needed: MYR3,250.00

During May, SERUM has successfully raised RM 6,500 in total with 151 donors and 21 fundraisers. With that, we were able to provide 350 bottles of hand sanitisers (50ml per beneficiary) and 3,250 face masks (5 face masks per beneficiary) for the underserved communities. The NGOs that we partnered with were:
- Malaysia Karen Organisation - 300 bottles of 100ml hand sanitisers and 3,000 face masks for the refugees
- Tanma Federation - 50 bottles of 50ml hand sanitisers and 250 face masks for the refugees

On 16th of May, SERUM has partnered with NGOhub to launch the Fundraise From Home Program. The aim is to upskill youths in fundraising aspects via a 2-hour workshop, then utilise the skills they have learnt by fundraising for SERUM for 1 week. In a mere 1 week, we have 22 youths from AIESEC and Enactus UNMC fundraised RM 4,335.07, collectively achieved 111.16% of the goals set.

On April 2020, we successfully fundraised and provided 327 hand sanitisers to 287 families from the underserved communities with our partnered NGOs, namely:
- Taylor's Community - 150 bottles for the refugee communities
- Relawan MBM - 80 bottles for the B40 communities
- Malaysia Karen Organisation - 80 bottles for the refugee communities
- Tanma Federation - 17 bottles for the refugee communities
This success was achieved collectively with our partner Septhus as well.
