THE PROBLEM

Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island (BMOUI) was set up as ex-situ conservation to aid in the conservation of Orangutans of Malaysia. From the initial three (3) Orangutans it expanded to a maximum of 16 Orangutans providing a valuable family to undertake research and education into what is now a critically endangered species. BMOUI serves as a referral centre for many leading local and international universities.

On December 27, 2018 BMOUI suffered a fire to its Education Theatre Room, Lakeside Café’, De Shoppe (souvenir shop), Store Rooms, Finance Office, Departure Jetty and other eco-tourist facility. Fortunately none of the Orangutans or staffs was affected.

A facility dependant on the goodwill of the public and private sectors for its continued existence we humbly seek donations for the repair and reconstruction of this valuable educational facility serving hundreds of undergraduate and post graduate students in conservation as well as thousands of eco-tourists every year.

THE SOLUTION

The space areas are reduced and the fund collected will be utilized to open back the fire damaged area.

2. The construction roofing at the whole walkway

3. To build side railing for children safety.

Completion of this construction will ensure visitors and guest are easily accessible to Departure Jetty and to reduce congestion at the Arrival Jetty.

THE IMPACT

  1. To provide safe and comfortable facilities for visitors, students and researchers.

  2. Revenue generated from visitors will be utilized to maintain the Orang Utan Island operation including food, medicine, health care, and enrichment for orangutan.
