BUKIT MERAH ORANG UTAN ISLAND FOUNDATION

BACKGROUND

Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island (BMOUI) was set up as ex-situ conservation to aid in the conservation of Orangutans of Malaysia.

The Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island (BMOUI) was started on February 2000 and on 28 February 2008, Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation (BMOUIF) was incorporated. The main objectives are to conduct Education and Research Program regarding orangutan.

From the initial three (3) Orangutans it expanded to a maximum of 16 Orangutans providing a valuable family to undertake research and education into what is now a critically endangered species.

BMOUI serves as a referral centre for many leading local and international universities.
