The Story

As of end May 2022, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (“UNHCR '') in Malaysia reported that there are some 182,960 refugees and asylum-seekers registered with them in Malaysia. Malaysia does not have an effective legal framework in place to legitimize and protect refugees within our borders. As a result, the refugees have no legal protection, they have challenges accessing healthcare and their children cannot go to public school.

In Malaysia, refugee and asylum seeking children and youth are not allowed to attend government schools at any level. They can only access education through informal community based learning centers supported by UNHCR and its partners.

In an effort to assist the refugee children, we joined  AIESEC in Sunway. We conduct a four week program(Empowering Equalities) where we hold four workshops to help refugee children in various ways, for example teaching and helping them improve their language skills, raising funds for them and educating the public about the struggles that the refugee community faces on a daily basis.

Empowering Equalities helps change the public's perception about the refugee community while simultaneously equipping them with the life skills they may need in the future. Please donate if you want to be part of the change and impact their young lives positively.

The donations will be going towards funding the daily operations of the school as it can be challenging for the school to run without enough funds.
