Hi there, we are Pravy and Yun Xian from Aiesec Sunway. With the aim to help those who are in need, we have joined "Empowering Equalities", a project that focus on facilitating the learning opportunities for refugees' children and also raising awareness on the issues that the vulnerable community face to the general public.
Like all children, refugee children have the fundamental right to life, survival and development to the maximum extent possible. However, living in exile, refugee children are often denied normal childhoods.
According to UNHCR, a refugee academy created by UN in 1950, Malaysia hosts a total of 181,000 refugees and asylum-seekers. 85% are from Myanmar, including some 103,000 Rohingyas. 45,650 of them are children below the age of 18. In Malaysia, refugee children are denied access to the formal education system, and thus obtain education via an informal parallel system of 128 community-based learning centres.
In part with Empowering Equalities 9.0 project hosted by AIESEC Sunway, A Pencil A Thought is responsible in helping out in collecting funds which would directly be transacted to the respectful body involved which is Refugee Academy, Meru, Klang. With the money accumulated, the school is able to build much more efficient facilities to equip the refugee yoth with the proper knowledge and understanding to advance in their education journey. Not only that but the school will also be able to help the refugee youths in covering their daily needs as well.
With the help provided by YOU, the kids in Refugee Academy will not only be able to qualify for the secondary or tertiary education, but they would be able to be more confident to voice out their opinion and be less dependent towards others.
Be part of the change today!
