Ending hunger, one step at a time

The Story

Hello there! The masterminds behind this fundraiser are Yitian Gan and Joyce Rajendran. We are both youths with a heart set for a mission: to foster mindful purchasing and consumption of food to reduce food wastage. Do you know that 1.3 billion tons of food go to waste every year? Even if just a fourth of the food that is wasted could be rescued, it would be sufficient to feed approximately 870 million hungry people on the planet.

Food waste is not just a waste of money, labour and space in the landfill, it also contributes significantly to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the speed of climate change.

Is food waste making you as worried as we are? Fret not! Our program, known as the Clean Our Plate 8.0 project under the AIESEC organization is interested in reducing food waste by:

• By educating ourselves on food waste reduction methods such as composting and food repurposing
• Pass on our newly gained knowledge to school children to raise a generation of adults who practice mindful purchasing and consumption of food
• To spread awareness to the public regarding food waste issues through podcasts
• To fund local NGO’s such as The Lost Food Project who combat food waste by routing surplus food to the needy.

None of this comes easy. It requires effort, time and money. That’s where YOU come in! We hope you care about food waste as much as we do.
