Hey there! We are Ana, Ashley, and Jane. We are raising funds for the SERUM Initiative and here's why.
Ashley: Hi, my name is Ashley Leow. I’m a first-year dietetics student from International Medical University. As a future healthcare professional, I’ve always been concerned about food insecurity especially in our country, Malaysia. Due to this pandemic, things have worsened as not everyone has equal access to foods and healthcare making those who are in need more prone to disease and hunger. By joining this project I hope that you and I can contribute something and together little by little we can overturn the situation.
Ana: My name is Ana and I'm a recently graduated high school student planning to attend New York University to study film and television. I've always been passionate about volunteering and supporting those in need. It breaks my heart knowing there are people out there who do not have any means to protect themselves or their loved ones against this nightmare of a virus. When this pandemic started, it was so physically and mentally distressing and crushing for me, a person who has access to all necessary resources. Imagine how it must feel like for those who don't. I wanted to participate in this campaign by SERUM, to help and support those in need so they no longer have to feel this way. This cause, although very upsetting, motivates me to be more compassionate and supportive towards underprivileged communities in Malaysia. I've grown up with my parents constantly teaching me that there is no greater happiness than that achieved when helping others. In my mind, when I help others, it's not something that only benefits them but also benefits me. It makes me a good person which is my ultimate goal in life.
By supporting this campaign through donations and ultimately providing a mask and hand sanitizer for one person, you could be saving their life. So, if you can do that, why would you not donate?
Jane: My name is Jane and I’m an undergraduate student at the University of Washington intending to study neuroscience or a similar major. Not everyone has access to proper safety equipment like hand sanitizers and face masks and can be assured of their safety. Knowing this has pushed me outside my comfort zone to help those in need. I want to do my part in helping these communities and creating a positive impact on their lives because I have the resources to be able to make a change for the better. Growing up in Malaysia, I often think about how I can improve the lives of others and what impact I want to make in my home country. It was difficult as there were numerous existing problems such as the refugee crisis, the need for the conservation of wildlife, along with many others. The pandemic exacerbates existing problems and creates new ones, but I believe that working with SERUM is a pertinent way to help underprivileged communities at this time. From this, I hope it allows me to take future steps to help others through learning how to crowdfund. People should support this campaign due to the large importance of face masks and hand sanitizers during the pandemic. Such a small act will potentially be able to influence a family’s livelihood.
