Networking is one of the major resources that helps us to connect with people around the world. According to LinkedIn Newsroom, 80% of professionals believe that career success can be elevated through professional networking. Besides that, networking is vital for career progression because networking enables us to have access to the resources necessary to foster our career development. Through interaction and communication with others, we can keep a pulse on the job market, stay in touch with current trends, and meet prospective clients, partners, and mentors. Through networking, we can easily connect with one another through specialised applications like Linkedin. According to PayScale, at least 70% of job-seekers obtained their current job via networking. Thus, networking is said to be one of the most effective ways to obtain a job. Such is because employers tend to hire individuals that are referred to them by someone they trust. 

 

THE SOLUTION

AIESEC in Sunway will be having an event called Connect with AIESEC to introduce a networking event virtually during the Covid-19 pandemic. This event aims to help the community understand the nature and importance of networking by connecting the participants to various individuals with business and technology backgrounds around the world through networking. Besides that, proceeds from this event will be channeled to sustaining the four SDG-related projects carried out by AIESEC in Sunway, which aims to activate youth leadership, achieve the objectives of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals and create a positive impact to the community in needs and beneficiaries of the projects. Proceeds obtained will be used to subsidize the project activity costs as well as transportation and admin costs.

• A new way to support AIESEC in Sunway’s SDG-related projects, which are Speak Up, Clean Our Plate, Get Fit Get Inclusive and Empowering Equalities. These projects aim to address certain issues in Malaysia such as food waste issues and help certain communities such as refugees, special needs children and underserved students. All four projects aim to promote the social inclusiveness of these underprivileged communities and raise awareness by changing the public’s perceptions towards these communities and issues. As such, proceeds from this event will be channelled to these projects to ensure the execution of these projects in its best quality, and to ensure the sustainability of these projects in the long run.

  • Past Impacts from one of the AIESEC in Sunway’s social projects, Get Fit Get Inclusive, organized by AIESEC in Sunway in the past, built a tandem bicycle library to promote independence and practice integration of persons with disabilities within their communities. Besides that, events were held to raise awareness for the public regarding inclusion of special needs people and activities were carried out to encourage special needs children in taking part in activities that enable us to see the changes in their behaviours.

COST BREAKDOWN

• Most of the proceeds earned through this fundraising campaign will go into supporting AIESEC in Sunway to continue supporting and sustaining our future projects such as Speak Up, Clean Our Plate, Get Fit Get Inclusive and Empowering Equalities.

• 20% of the crowdfunding and registration fee will be used to support the community targeted by our projects through our initiatives. 

• The merchandise prices offered cover both the cost of production and the Giving Hub's 6.5% tax.
