Train the Orang Asli to Speak Up!

The Story

Speak Up Project organized by AIESEC in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) was first established in 2015. The project is held in Asrama Orang Asli Karak for three consecutive years until now. The students are from the age range of 13-17 year old. They stay in the hostel because they live very far from the family. Most of them come from rural areas around Pahang such as Bera. 

We are attracted to initiate Speak Up Project in Karak because we want to give exposure to the Orang Asli children who is underserved in Malaysia. They are oftenly backward in term of education. Therefore, with the exposure of international people and English speaking environment, we believe that the children will see the importance of speaking English in our daily society recently. On the other hand, throughout the activities, they will be able to join English workshop, cultural sharing and speak up challenge. During the speak up challenge, the children are required to speak in front of their friends. 

Since 3 years ago, we have identified that there are many of the facilities in the hostel is getting broken. The toilet for the students cant be used well and the volunteers has no proper place to live in for 6 weeeks. Therefore, from this campaign, we hope that the contribution from the kind heart will help us to do better for our upcoming project in January. The money that we obtain will be used for the benefits of the projects and the children in Asrama Orang Asli, Karak.
