The Story

Impact in Action is a student-led project initiated by a group of Year 1 students from Heriot-Watt University who are committed to supporting individuals within the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. In collaboration with the Malaysian Federation of the Deaf (MFD), the project aims to raise funds and increase awareness to improve the quality of life of people with hearing impairments, with particular emphasis on deaf children and young adults.

The initiative focuses on fundraising activities that provide financial support to partner organisations, enabling them to deliver essential services such as education support, communication and sign language training, rehabilitation programmes, access to hearing devices, and community development initiatives. In addition to fundraising, Impact in Action places strong emphasis on awareness creation by educating the public about deafness, challenging misconceptions, and promoting inclusive communication practices within society.

Through active community engagement, students develop a deeper sense of social responsibility, teamwork, and empathy while making a meaningful contribution to society. Impact in Action highlights how young individuals can play an active role in addressing social inequalities and advocating for inclusivity. Through collective effort and collaboration with organisations supporting the deaf community, the project seeks to foster a more inclusive society where individuals with hearing impairments are respected, supported, and empowered to live with dignity, independence, and equal opportunities.
