The Story

1.0 The Problem

B40 students encounter a range of educational challenges that encompass financial limitations, teacher quality, and the learning materials at their disposal. Primarily, B40 students face financial constraints that hinder their access to a high-quality education. In addition, they often grapple with a deficit in technical knowledge and skills, as well as a deficiency in soft skills, including effective presentation abilities. The significance of presentation skills has grown significantly, as they empower individuals to eloquently convey their work to others.

Meanwhile, both government authorities and society at large appear to allocate inadequate attention and resources to enhance the education of B40 students. This disregard and lack of concerted effort could potentially contribute to the amplification of economic disparities in the future.

2.0 Solution and Our Aim

1. Enhancing Knowledge Through STEAM and Personal Development Workshop

As members of MYVI, we have acquired STEAM-related knowledge under the guidance of our trainers. Following task allocation within our Speak Up team, we are poised to conduct workshops aimed at imparting STEAM concepts to high school students. Equally significant, we are committed to organising stress management and leadership development workshops. These workshops are designed to enhance their soft skills, recognizing that in today's world, proficiency in not only technical but also soft skills holds great importance.

2. Boosting Confidence in Communication

Introducing a video challenge, we encourage students to showcase their acquired knowledge in English through recorded presentations. This initiative serves to elevate their confidence in English communication and public speaking, enabling them to confidently present in front of audiences.

3. YOU are the HERO!!!

2. Empower the society to support and advocate for the B40 students in order to foster a more inclusive Malaysia.

3. Generate funds to support the B40 students and AIESEC in Sunway’s Speak Up! 13.0 project to ensure this project can last longer to benefit the society.

3.0 The Reason of Joining This Programme

I appreciate the fact that the education I've received, from primary school up to tertiary education, has been of a higher quality compared to what B40 students have access to. Nevertheless, despite benefiting from a superior education, I often find myself lacking confidence when speaking English in front of others. This lack of confidence might stem from the fact that English isn't my native language. As a result, I've enrolled in this program with the aim of bolstering my English-speaking confidence in social settings.

Simultaneously, I hold a genuine concern for B40 students who haven't had the privilege of a superior education. I recognize that their confidence in public speaking might be even lower than mine, especially considering the language barrier. This apprehension extends to knowledge-related discussions, where they might be less inclined to engage with STEAM subjects due to their educational background.

This is precisely why I've chosen to participate in this program—to shed light on this issue within society and generate awareness about the disparities in education that B40 students face.
