EcoGuardians: A Fundraising Campaign for Environmental Protection

The Story

Who am I and what am I passionate about?

Hi, my name is YAP YEE CHENG and I am currently pursuing 1^st year of BSc in Biochemistry in UPM. I am taking part as a Malaysian Youth Volunteer in a volunteering project called ECHO 3.0 by AIESEC in UPM. The reason I join this volunteering project is to increase my awareness of environmental protection.

ECHO 3.0 is a 4-week project by AIESEC in UPM aiming to increase awareness of climate change. Our project initiatives are aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG 13): Climate Action initiated by the United Nations.

EcoGuardians Fundraising Campaign

The main objective of this fundraising campaign is to promote the action of environmental protection, such as tree-planting, river cleaning and increase public awareness. In Malaysia, 5% of our river basins are severely polluted and 42% are polluted, leaving only 53% of all rivers classified as "clean". However, the lack of public awareness has allowed this silent threat to thrive, poisoning our waterways and endangering aquatic life. Hence, the purpose of this campaign is to find someone who has an awareness of issues environmental protection such as solid waste issues.

What is the impact of your donation?

In EcoGuardians Fundraising Campaign, the fund of the campaign will donate to Global Environment Centre (GEC). The Global Environment Centre (GEC) is a non-profit organisation that wishes to safeguard the environment and promote sustainable management of resources to meet local, regional and global needs through smart partnerships with communities and like-minded organisations. A River Care Programme (RCP) was established by GEC to encourage civic science-based community participation in river and water resource protection and sustainable usage. Hence, through EcoGuardians Fundraising Campaign, you can help to protect the environment by supporting the RCP through your donation.

How do I feel about it?

Before joining this ECHO 3.0 project, I always avoid my responsibility as a human to protect our environment from human activities. People, including me, always use to produce many solid wastes and we do not take any action to reduce their carbon footprint. However, throughout this project, I realise that solid waste, especially plastic waste causes more harm to the environment than I imagine. I am here to make a change through the EcoGuardians Fundraising Campaign. It would mean the world to me if you could donate and support me through this campaign.
