The Story

Who am I and What am I Doing?

• Hi! I'm Justin Lee, a Malaysian Youth Volunteer under AIESEC of University Putra Malaysia. I joined the ' Clean Our Plate' project with the primary goal of reducing and managing food waste in my household and to practice zero food waste while also aim to create a more inclusive and fair world for all by addressing hunger within the homeless community.

 What's the issue? 

• The issue of food waste and homelessness in Malaysia is of great significance and unquestionably serious. As reported by Malaysian News, around 16688 tonnes of edible food are discarded daily, which could potentially feed at least 2.2 million people, at least 3 times a day! A significant portion of this food ends up in landfills, posing environmental and economic challenges to the nation, including the rise of food insecurity. Addressing this problem necessitates a collaborative effort involving individuals, businesses, and the government to implement effective food waste reduction and management strategies.
• Additionally, it is noteworthy that approximately 90% of homeless individuals in Malaysia are Malaysians, and the number of city dwellers experiencing homelessness has seen an increase of 20 to 30 percent since the start of the pandemic. Therefore, it is crucial to tackle this issue before it worsens further.

What will the money be used for? 

• The funds raised will be donated to the homeless community through our partner TASK ( The Assembly Soup Kitchen ). TASK will utilise the funds to get neccesary ingredients and supplies to cook and serve the underpreviliged, including refugees orang aslis and the B40 group, ensuring that they receive much needed support and assistance

How can you help and why is it Important?

• The state of homelessness does not define a person's identity; it is a transient phase they experience. They too, are working towards improving their lives. Your generous and kind donations have a significant effect! With just RM10, a person can receive a much needed meal and with just RM50, five homesless hungry individuals will be relieved. Your compassionate actions play a crucial role in providing nourishment to those in need and bring a sense of hope to them.
