Women must be empowered to make a prosperous society

The Story

Hello people, I'm Wong Shi Yee, currently studying in Sunway University. I'm doing this fundraising on behalf of Malaysian Youth Volunteer by AIESEC in Sunway is to promote public awareness about gender inequality in Malaysia.

"Gender equality is a human right, and is vital for a peaceful, prosperous world." said Oscar Auliq Ice. In Malaysia, a 2020 study identified five factors driving gender inequality among women in the workplace were childcare and household poverty, government policies, labour force participation, discrimination in dress codes, and lack of technical and managerial skills. Nowadays, sexual harassment is also an issue concerned by women. Historically women have been disadvantaged financially, educationally, and in the workplace. As a result, it affects their ability to manage risks and withstand the effects of harm. According to Dr Sarah Cumbers - Director of Evidence and Insight, Lloyd’s Register Foundation, “Improving the way in which risk and safety issues are communicated to women and sharing ways in which others have taken action to report harm and reduce risks, will contribute significantly to efforts to win greater equality.”

A recent news shows that there is more female graduates, but less female workers. Most unemployed females had to adopt to housework or family responsibilities, which also meant that female have to tolerate when there’s an issue on allocation of family position even they have higher education. Other reasons which might prevent a women’s role in workplace include “Motherhood penalty”, weak sexual harassment laws, undervaluing of women’s work and more.
