The Story

The Story

Have you ever gone to a restaurant to eat, and while you were enjoying your meal, you were suddenly interrupted by a young skinny refugee child, asking for donations?

We sure have - multiple times.

Sometimes we would feel guilty and give them whatever spare change we have, sometimes we just ask them to go away, because the truth is, they make us uncomfortable.

Has it ever occurred to you how they ended up that way?

Has it ever occurred to you that they themselves would have never wanted to beg around - in a foreign country, we might add - to have one meagre meal?

Has it not occurred to you that begging around was their LAST resort to survive?

These children, like ALL other children, should have been in school. But that basic human rights that we legal citizens have often taken for granted, is nothing but a far-fetched dream to most of them.

The Issue

Did you know that refugees and asylum seekers in Malaysia are considered “illegal immigrants” regardless if they have legal documents or a UNHCR card?

Our law does not recognise them, and because of that, these unfortunate people have basically ZERO human rights - including the right to education and work.

In 2022, more than 47,200 refugee children below the age of 18 years are recorded in Malaysia. But of that, only 30% are enrolled in education centres.

Our Mission : Education Access for Refugee Children

We, Aqmar Nisa Raflly and Aimie Anuar are advocating for the right of refugee children to have access to education through the Empowering Equalities 10.0 programme by AIESEC Sunway.

This year, AIESEC Sunway is partnering with Fugee School Kuala Lumpur to help promote their newly launched Fugee Scholarship Fund.

Fugee Scholarship Fund is a scholarship programme that aims to obtain RM 3,000.00 with the initiative to provide a safe and equipped learning environment for 20 refugee students undertaking their higher education.

To support this initiative, our personal goal for this project is RM 500.00.

How Can You Help?

You can help make a difference for the future of 20 refugee students by donating any amount to our cause.

Or

You can help sponsor 1 refugee child in higher education for 3 months with just RM 150.00.

By donating, you are enabling refugee youths the chance to build a secure future, give them the ability to live independently and help them improve the lives of their community.
