Be A Hero for Special Needs Children

The Story

Hello, my name is Addanish and I am a volunteer with AIESEC at Sunway University. I am thrilled to be participating in the 'Get Fit, Get Inclusive' project, which aims to raise awareness and funds for the special needs community in Malaysia. Our fundraising efforts will be donated to IMC Special Needs Centre, a wonderful organization that provides inclusive environments for special needs children to reach their full potential.

Unfortunately, the special needs community in Malaysia often faces social challenges such as discrimination and exclusion from mainstream society. According to UNICEF Malaysia, a significant portion of the population lacks awareness and understanding of these issues, with 58% reporting being uneducated on the subject. This lack of knowledge can contribute to the marginalization of special needs children, who may be isolated or kept out of sight rather than being given the opportunity to fully engage with their communities.

I have a dear friend with a family member who has non-verbal autism. With the support of organizations like IMC, this family member has been able to improve their communication skills and better express their needs and wants to their loved ones. Before receiving assistance at special needs centers, this was a struggle for them. However, thanks to the support they have received, they are now more loving and receptive to physical affection. Their relationship with their loved ones has grown stronger and more affectionate as a result
