The Story

Hi, I am Alexis Tan from AIESEC in Sunway, a passionate volunteer of the “Speak Up” program who intends to foster equality in education for B40 students in Malaysia!

As everyone knows, the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic had exacerbated the problem of education inequality especially in B40 communities. Students from underprivileged communities face greater challenges and barriers to cope with their syllabuses due to the shortage of electronic devices which have become necessary for their studies. They will feel less motivated in class as they find it hard to catch up with others and they are also likely to be confronted with a negative mindset that they are less able than others who are considered as more privileged. Hence, it will be more difficult to unlock their true potential in academics, which is a great loss to our nation.

Besides, the concentrated development in urban areas has also led to inequality in education by widening the socioeconomic gaps. It is due to the limited access to resources and opportunities by students from rural areas, which make it harder to widen their vision beyond the walls of their classrooms. The weak internet connection in the outskirts also contributes to the students’ inconvenience to access information online. This condition will definitely leave a negative impact on the education system in our country.

The Goal of Crowdfunding Campaign EduQuity 1.0:

• To raise some funds for the activities carried out by AIESEC volunteering organization
