The Story

Hello everyone, I am Ho Tze Jing, a Malaysian Youth Volunteer. I am currently studying Chemical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). I choose to study chemical engineering at university level because I believe engineering knowledge is essential to create and innovate solutions that meet sustainable development goals which can make this world a better world!

According to a news article published by The Star in 2020, the number of students who are taking science streams after PT3 shows a decreasing trend in which only around 19% of the students choosing science stream in their higher secondary school level. This statistics is alarming because STEAM education is very important to cultivate critical thinking and problem solving skills among the youth (Lathan, 2022). Furthermore, hands-on experience such as doing science experiments are becoming less accessible due to the pandemic. Knowing the importance of STEAM Education, more effort should be put to spark students' interest in science subjects.

Here comes Speak Up 8.0 project which will provide soap kits to 40 B40 students to spark their interest in science subjects by letting them to experience soap making process! This project is aligned to Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.
