Hello everyone, I'm Lavanitha here. “Nothing than Something” gives me the thought of lending hands to the needy based on our own affordability, not for the frame. I’m here with a mindset of helping the needy.
Until now, food security in terms of food sufficiency has become a concern and subject of interest in Malaysia, especially in rural areas in Sabah. Since the Movement Control Order (MCO) was implemented in March, we learned that rural folks are in great need of food assistance from the government. According to Wilfred Bumburing, former member of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, with a big land area available for paddy cultivation, Sabah has all the potential for self-sufficiency and this can ensure Sabah has enough rice supply without needing to import from Thailand or Vietnam. But unfortunately, there are many people out there who are still not giving serious attention to this matter and mainly the group of rural families has been affected badly. Therefore, we have to look into food security – agriculture, fisheries, and fruits – all that is needed is comprehensive plans and programs for farmers and fishers. We should start our economic development from agriculture since Sabah has the basic natural resources to develop the economy is self-sufficiency of local food supply. This serious matter influenced me to help out Hopes Malaysia Welfare Association.
