Together We Fight For Equal Education

The Story

Hi! I'm Catriona or you might call me by my nickname, Cat. Growing up I never had to worry about education as it has been taken care of by my parents. I had my meals taken care of since young and people around me had always been kind to me despite some challenges. However, as I met more people throughout my life as I grew up, many people do not share the same privilege as I did. That feeling became more prominent as I went out to do community services representing my university.

Hence, I decided to join AIESEC as well to try and contribute to the society as much as I can. I wanted to spread volunteering projects to many more youth and increase the awareness regarding the lack of access to education to youth in Malaysia. You may think, why the effort? This is because over 1 million Malaysian children are not in school and 42.12% of indigenous students dropped out of school early. Making it a vicious cycle of young adults not being able to find work, divorce, etc.

Through Speak Up 8.0, there are many activities and workshop available to teach B40 students skills and knowledge that are useful to them. I hope those who see this can donate money, no matter how small to this good cause! If you're interested to know more about the project, please don't be hesitant to approach me :)  

P.S. If we reach our donation target, I'll be doing the ice bucket challenge ;)
