The Story

Hi, I am Soo Teik Yuan from AIESEC in Sunway, a volunteer for the project 'Get Fit, Get Inclusive'. This project aims to reduce Inequalities which aims to assist Special Children in Malaysia by conducting activities that supports the development of Special Children's mental and social skills and fundraising to support Pusat Jagaan And Latihan Insan Istimewa (IMC) a new centre supporting more Special Needs Children including their daily operations.

According to Dr. Anthonella d. Benitez Ojeda, special needs can include learning disabilities, speech and language impairments, autism spectrum disorders, cognitive impairments, emotional and behavioral disorders, physical disabilities like cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophies, sensory impairments like vision or hearing, chronic medical illnesses, and any condition that may affect their education.

I remember last time visiting Rumah Insaniah Dr Siti Hasmah and having a fun session with them where we painted our own white t-shirt with our own special design. All persons with disabilities (PWD), including the special needs children and us, were having a great time. Other than that, I also participated in one competition organized by Code for Asia where my team and I were developing an app that helps autism children with learning disabilities and helps them coping with their daily schedules thereby shares the task of their parents or carer. In that competition, there were lots of great competitors and we eventually lost, but now I have another opportunity to help the special needs children with this project, this act of fundraising.
