I amTan Jun Jie, a first-year student of Computer Science at University Sains, Malaysia ( USM). I am a virtual volunteer of the Speak Up project organized by AIESEC in Penang( APEN). As we all know that English, which is the International Language, is playing a very significant role in communication as English is the most spoken language in the world ( 1.132 million speakers including native speakers and non-native speakers). Here is the question, where will you place our Malaysian English Proficiency among the world?
Well, according to EF English Proficiency Index (EF EPI) which is released in November 2021, Malaysia is ranked 28 with a score of 562( high proficiency). Thus, we should make an effort to improve English Proficiency level in our country. Here comes to Speak Up.
SPEAK UP! is a project designed by AIESEC in Penang with the intention to bring a positive impact that aims to increase the awareness among youths to realize the importance of English while integrating STEM knowledge. This project is also aligned with the fourth sustainable development goal (SDG)- quality of education. English proficiency and STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) knowledge are two important factors of employability in the 21st century. Speak up is here to increase the number of youth with the necessary skills for employment.
I hope that I can make some small changes and contributions to develop better STEM education in students through joining the Speak Up project. I also hope that I can deliver some useful knowledge to the participants and they can learn new experiences from the Speak Up project as Speak Up project provide a platform for the youth to talk in English and exchange their thoughts and minds
With your little contribution, the youth will have a greater chance to excel and enhance their communication skills. Could you please help us to achieve our goal by donating any amount of funs? We appreciate your contribution, Thank you.
