The Story

Hello there! I am Sharvani Karthigesu, a Local Virtual Volunteer of AISEC in University of Malaya Clean Our Plate Winter Project 2022.

Can you believe that 45% (17,000,000 kg) of our daily domestic solid waste are food waste? Yes! 4,080,000 kg of the solid waste that end up in landfills everyday are actually EDIBLE food waste that is enough to feed 3 million people 3 meals a day!

In the midst of COVID-19 pandemic, we are working to improve food waste awareness in our communities by encouraging responsible consumption and management. We must no longer take our food for granted!

Through this campaign, Clean Our Plate AIESEC in the University of Malaya is collaborating with Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia intending to raise the fund which will be used to purchase food donations items for the underprivileged end beneficiary, to impact around 150 communities that assist them during this difficult pandemic period. 

60% of the funds will go back to the underprivileged end beneficiary whereas 40% will be used for future projects development.
