Assalamualaikum and good day everyone!
I'm Aida, a first time local virtual volunteer for Clean Our Plate under AIESEC in University of Malaya. I am a strong believer that nothing is impossible in life. A change starts with us and everybody plays a pivotal role in it. Together, we will be able to make a change, not only for our own benefits, but also for the good of everyone. If there is a will, there is always a way. If there is no way, WE will make a way!
Clean Our Plate AIESEC is an initiative to raise public's awareness of the food waste issue that has been happening in Malaysia. We aim to encourage and cultivate good ethics in food waste management among the public as well.
Did you know that an average of 16,688 tonnes of food wastes are generated on a daily basis in Malaysia? Approximately 12,000 tonnes are inedible food waste while about 3,000 tonnes are edible food waste that is equivalent to the amount of food that could be used to feed 2.2 million people which is more than the population of Kuala Lumpur. It is found that an average Malaysian household of five, spends about RM900 on food, and about RM225 of them are thrown out. This amount could be used to buy seven bags of 10kg rice, or, 132litres of RON95 petrol, or, 30Mbps Unifi plan with a total of RM2,700 wasted per year.
Through this crowdfunding campaign, Clean Our Plate AIESEC works in collaboration with Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia to raise the fund which will be used to purchase food donation items for the underprivilaged end beneficiary, with the goal of impacting around 150 communities that assist them during this difficult pandemic period.
The tentative food donation list that will be received per beneficiaries are as follow:
1. Mini Rice Cake 30s (20g)
2. Margarine (1kg)
3. Orange Cordial (2kg)
4. Potato (2.5kg)
5. Onion (1.5kg)
6. Eggs Grade C 30s (60g)
