“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” – Aesop
Greetings!
I am Teo Rui Yue, a virtual volunteer of Clean Our Plate Project under AIESEC in Universiti Malaya. This project aims to tackle food waste issue that is happening in Malaysia by supporting the 12th Sustainable Development Goal: Responsible Consumption and Production.
Did you know that Malaysians produce an estimated around 16,687 tonnes of food waste daily which is enough to feed 12 million people three times a day. Besides, 55% of the solid waste disposed at landfills are comprised of food waste.
However, the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) “Families on the Edge” survey in Feb 2021 found that about 57% of households were unable to purchase sufficient food for survival due to COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, we aim to eliminate food waste among our communities and support the charities which have insufficient food supply.
Clean Our Plate Project under AIESEC in UM is now collaborating with Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia to raise funds to help the underprivileged with access to food supplies, with the goal of impacting around 150 communities that assist them during these unprecedented times.
The tentative food donation list that will be received per beneficiaries are as follow:
1. Mini Rice Cake 30s (20g)
2. Margarine (1kg)
3. Orange Cordial (2kg)
4. Potato (2.5kg)
5. Onion (1.5kg)
6. Eggs Grade C 30s (60g)
60% of the funds will go back to the underprivileged end beneficiary whereas 40% will be used for future projects development.
Raised of MYR 300.00 target.
