Save Food, Less Waste

The Story

Greetings, my name is Chi Huey. I'm currently studying communication at Universiti Sains Malaysia and joining as a volunteer for AIESEC Penang's Clean Our Plate project.

Did you know that much edible food is wasted and discarded every day, while many people in Malaysia are still starving? According to research, about 17,000 tonnes of food waste is generated every day (it can fill 7 Olympic-sized swimming pools). It means that out of 17,000 tonnes of food waste, around 24% or 4,080 tonnes are still EDIBLE. This edible food is enough to feed 3 million people three meals daily, but they end up in landfills!!!

Amid the current pandemic where food insecurity is through the roof, we strive to raise awareness among youths and communities about food waste by cultivating responsible consumption and production. Hence, AIESEC Penang's Clean Our Plate project collaborates with Green Hero. We intend to raise the fund to purchase food donation items that help the underprivileged and B40 families end hunger.

Just RM5 will provide needy families with food because no one in our homeland deserves to go hungry. Let's reduce food waste by feeding the hungry people!
