The Story

Hi everyone! My name is Wai Yee, and I am currently the local virtual volunteer of AIESEC in UTAR.

I am currently fundraising for our Local Virtual Volunteer project called "Speak Up 7.0”. Our project aims to create impact on a local level towards SDG Target4.4 - by 2030, substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship.

Due to my non-English family history, I was hesitant to speak English in public during my primary and secondary school years. I was frightened of making mistakes and being chastised by others for my transgressions. As a result, I continue to believe that some students from non-English backgrounds may suffer the same difficulties as I did last time.

In a developing country, I strongly believe that education plays a critical role. Education is a basic human necessity and each of us has the right to struggle for better educational opportunities in order to better our lives. With the rise of e-learning, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused education to alter dramatically. Students in the B40 category are the most vulnerable and benefit the least from online learning platforms.

As a teenager, I believe it is past time for us to take the bold step of changing our lives. Thus, we are still trying our best to foster students who are in need during these uncertain times of epidemic!

What are you hesitating for? Join our online crowdfunding movement, and together we empower more young people to speak up confidently!

Speak up even if your voice shakes. - Maggie Kuhn
