[SPEAK UP 7.0 !] Investment in a QUALITY EDUCATION to Malaysian Youth

The Story

Greetings. My name is Syurene, currently studying English Language at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). I had spent my January 2021 with the AIESEC communities and Local Virtual Volunteers in the Speak Up 7.0 programme. The project is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education.

I have been working as an English tutor since my university year. I have found out that students are having low confidence and courageous level to speak in English. This is because they are having thought that their English pronunciation is poor and have low comprehension of English. Therefore, they choose not to speak in English to avoid being embarrassed and humiliated. In this situation, they will lose their opportunity to speak up or voice out their opinion or perspective to the world. As we know that currently, the English Language is the main intermediate language in the world. Hence, with this Speak Up 7.0 project, I would like to make an effort to reverse the tide. Wishing that Malaysian youth’s confidence can be built to speak to the world.

Furthermore, students nowadays are more focusing on their academic results and most of them would neglect the technical skills that are unable to be learnt in the classroom. Therefore, Speak Up 7.0 is here to provide a space for the students to gain their personal development and help them to gain technical skills such as public speaking that can help in their future employment. Moreover, students can gain better self-understanding, build confidence in themselves and learn the basis of STEM skills such as making their own website through the programming learning session.
