The Story

Good day,

My name is Jingquan Ooi, 21 years old, a physics undergraduate in UTAR. I believe most people were exposed to social issues around us, thank today’s fast-paced digital world. The early ’20s is weird age when you’re a student burdened with financial limitations, meanwhile, your heart was set on fire wanted to change the world. I’m appreciated meeting AIESEC, a precious platform that guides me to develop personal growth and contribute to society. A quote that sparks me to join the AIESEC volunteer program is, “That you are here – that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse.” My verse will be “Voice for the Voiceless.” 

Education is the light of life, the answers to curiosity, and the fuel to new innovations. Besides, the book "The knowledge illusion" by S. Sloman & P.Fernbach describes that people are like bees which works in a hive mind where intelligence and knowledge do not reside on an individual. In my opinion, everyone has the right to receive a proper education. It must not give in to poverty, war, politics, and other factors. Deprivation of education is an injustice and has negative impacts on the development of a country.

The objective of "Granted Wishes" is to fundraise for the AIESEC Speak Up 7.0 Project that offers quality STEM education accompanied by English proficiency workshops for secondary school students in need such as public speaking skills training and website design workshop. Nonetheless, the project will help students to discover their interests and potential for better decision-making in choosing a future career path and tertiary education program. 

The fundraising is named in hopes to grant youth the opportunity to receive quality education and learning experiences which are beyond value than any materialistic gifts, because “Knowledge is power”. I imagine others like me wanted to make an effort to uplift the needy people although with limited capability. Hence, I created this campaign to call upon the public to thrive the movement together and leave no youngsters behind the darkness of ignorance.
