The Story

INTRODUCTION

My name is Rakeish and I'm a 21 year old student at Sunway University pursuing Bachelor of Science (Hons) Accounting and Finance. Volunteering in non-profit organizations (NPOs) has always been my nature as I am always looking at ways of using my skill sets to give back to the community. I have been part of many large NPOs as well as project initiatives to serve and deliver back to the community. That being said, this is another fundraising initiative that I wish to raise awareness as well as play a part in making a change in society.

The details of this fundraising campaign are as follows:

WHAT?

Problem

As we walk into the nature of a competitive workforce nature, it is no doubt that essential skill sets are vital for young graduates to possess in order to build their portfolio. However, there is a concerning number of students that lack proper education that deliver the guidance of these necessary skills due to their less accessible demographics. With these students being disconnected from their tutors and peers due to the ongoing pandemic, they might just be unable to grasp the required skills to build their profile as they step out of school. Inevidently, these students will face difficulity in the future to secure jobs and build a future for themselves.

Solution

1. Providing STEM & professional development workshops

Students are exposed to various essential skills that can be crucial for the workplace in the future - presentation skills, speaking and communicating skills, pitching and video editing skills. This way, students are able to hone their soft skills and we are able to narrow the gap among their peers from various backgrounds.

2. Providing laptops

With the ongoing pandemic, most students are expected to have a laptop or internet source. We will be providing the students laptops to increase the accessability of the workshops being conducted and resolve their connectivity issues.

3. Provide cash prizes as incentives for students

To ensure the students have gained from our workshops, students will be given the opportunity to win cash prizes by implementing their newly acquired skills.

Impact

We have partnered with schools such as SMK Puchong Permai and SMK Puchong Batu 14, and are conducting STEM and personal developement workshops to enhance and hone the necessary skills to help them prepare for their employability and workforce conditions.

The funds allocated will also continue to support the B40 student communities around Bandar Sunway in the near future.

WHY?

It would mean a lot to me if you too could play a part in making a change in these young students' education and future. Personally, education has always played an important part in my life and I wish to provide that privilege to those who do not have the same accessability.
