" Giving is not just about making a donation. It's about making a difference"
- Kathy Calvin-
Hello there! I'm Aras Dianti , a second year student from University of Malaya. I'm currently volunteering for "Clean Our Plate" project under AIESEC in UM. This project aims to change perspective of public towards surplus food and at the same time create a world with zero food waste.
Did you know that Malaysians produce around 38,000 tonnes of domestic waste daily? Out of these 38,000 tonnes, 45% of them are daily food waste. This is roughly around 17,000 tonnes! And to make matter worse, 24% of them (4,080 tonnes) are food that are still edible. This food alone is enough to feed three million people, three meals a day! Not only that, the dumping of food waste at landfills can also contribute to environmental pollution due to the methane gas released during the decomposition process.
This campaign, which is in collaboration with Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia, is an initiative to raise fund and help those in needs during this difficult pandemic period. 70% of the fund raised will be used to buy food donation items for underprivileged, whereas 30% will go to AIESEC for future project development.
Any donation does make a difference. Let's work together to end the hunger cycle :)
