The Story

Hey y'all, I am Tharshini @ Tari.

I am a first-year Bachelor of Social Sciences student majoring in Economics in the University of Science Malaysia. I am also an AIESEC'er since October 2020. AIESEC is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation that young people with leadership development, cross-cultural global internship, and volunteer exchange experiences across the globe. This organisation focuses on empowering young leaders to make a positive impact on society through actions.

What defines a positive impact? Impacting a big community with a big event? Now I feel like Nah not really. In my opinion, after joining AIESEC I have realized that positive impact also includes small but long-lasting impacts can also be a positive impact. This brings us to why this Crowdfunding?  Clean Our Plate is a project that aims to increase awareness,  change attitude and initiate easy & obvious actions of youth towards reducing preventable food waste & fully utilizing food waste.

Now you might ask, why Crowdfunding for its project? Firstly, this crowdfunding is important for us to maintain the sustainability of this project for a long-term impact. In this project, we will be educating students in schools in Penang about food waste through awareness workshops, executing projects related to this project, teach ways to handle food waste issues, and carry out a Food Donation drive to help the underprivileged and B40 families, especially the Covid-19 Situation as well as to raise the awareness of society to donate surplus food to their nearest food banks. Even though this feels like a very small impact to students but this a long-lasting impact where students will be implementing the knowledge l they learned lifelong. Imagine if everyone in this world has this knowledge and stops wasting their food, we can't solve this food waste issue.

Do you know that a nation could eat of the food we waste?

I am personally connected to this project because my mother always tells me "one day when you starve, you will understand the importance of each meal". I realised the importance of not wasting food.
