The Red Light - #EndPeriodPoverty

The Story

Hello everyone, Colours of Hope here! We are a group of five students from University of Malaya teamed up to fundraise for Menstrual Equity Campaign by SERUM Initiative. Together, we wish to END PERIOD POVERTY! 

Period poverty is a global issue affecting women and girls who don't have access to safe, hygienic sanitary products. Period poverty is not a new issue in Malaysia but unfortunately it is still left unspoken about. This issue has resulted in girls being absent at school when they are on their periods which can eventually lead to dropping out of the education system. What's more during MCO, many have lost their job and could hardly afford food for their family let alone afford sanitary pads which should be categorised under an inevitable essential. 

“If people don’t have enough money to buy food, it means they don’t have the means to buy a pad either. But this connection is never made.”

But you could make a difference! 

With your donations, we will be able to provide reusable sanitary pads for 500 beneficiaries from underserved communities across Malaysia. For every RM 15 donated, one reusable sanitary pad is provided. We aim to provide a minimum of 2 reusable sanitary pads to each beneficiary. These reusable sanitary pads are made by our talented refugee artisans at SERUM Initiative. Hence, each donation from you creates 2 layers of impact: health and economic impacts.

We believe that menstrual hygiene is a fundamental human right, not a privilege. It's about time for us to play our part to counter this problem in our community. Let's give a little shine of hope to the underprivileged women and girls out there. Together, let's END PERIOD POVERTY.
