"It is just a single meal wasted", said by billions of people at least twice a day.
But, have you ever wondered there are over 800 million people cry everyday just because they don't have a single meal for the day?
Hello there! I am Weng Nyan, currently participating in Clean Our Plate Project hosted by AIESEC in Penang. This project has started its journey since 2016 in creating public awareness and cultivate responsible consumption habits especially among the youth. This fundraising campaign is therefore used to lend a hand to the underprivileged comminities on financial constraints as well as advocate the reduction of food waste.
"About 24 percent or 4,005 tonnes of the food waste is classified as still edible, with the quantity sufficient to provide three meals to 2,970,000 people for a day. "
Food waste issue is a long term issue that people tends to forget when we are surrounded with lots of good foods. This issue is especially serious during the first phase of MCO announced on 18th of March 2020. People tends to panic buying and stock up the foodstuffs and highly perishable food like fresh fruits and meats but couldn't finish them before it spoils and here goes the FOOD WASTE.
"Evaluating how much you can eat, how much you should buy and how to deal with the leftover is a way us to improve their self-management. It is also a means to teach us sharing food, caring about others, and more importantly, developing a mindset of suitability."
There are very few people talking about this issue in the past, but NOW when we start talking about this, we as youths should raise awareness among our peers and get them really change their behaviour with sparks! Your very first step is significant to us and to the community, so Let's Start Donating Today!
Your contribution will be turned into food and distributed to the neccesities families in Penang.
