Fundraising for Cancer Fighters

Did you know?

In 2018, cancer is the second leading cause of death in Malaysia. According to Malaysia National Cancer Registry Report 2007-2011, the risk of males getting cancer is 1 in 10 and for females is 1 in 9.

A 2015 study Dr Nirmala Bhoo Pathy, associate professor of clinical epidemiology and public health at Universiti Malaya conducted found 65.1% of cancer patients at the public university hospital, 33.4% of cancer patients at MOH hospitals and 72% of cancer patients at private hospitals encountered financial catastrophe a year after cancer diagnosis.

(Financial catastrophe is defined as making out-of-pocket (OOP) payments related to cancer care that exceed 30 per cent of annual household income)

What if you could make a difference to the cancer fighters and their caregivers?

Hi guys! I am Wei Ling, a soon-to-be third year Pharmacy student in Monash University. Determined to lend a helping hand towards the cancer fighters, I have set up this fundraising page in conjunction with Taylor's University Here for You (H4U) project to raise funds for National Cancer Society of Malaysia, the first not-for-profit cancer organisation established in Malaysia (1996) that provides education, care and support services for people affected by cancer and the general public. 

The funds collected would be distributed for the following aspects: 

1. Providing "halfway homes" for underprivileged child/adult cancer patients & their caregivers from outside of Kuala Lumpur while they receive cancer treatments in Kuala Lumpur.
2. Providing highly subsidised nuclear imaging services & screening for public & free screening for the underprivileged. 
3. Reaching out to the underprivileged communities & educate them on cancer
   prevention & early detection.
4. Providing support & cancer information to patients, survivors, caregivers & public.

Based on their annual report in 2019, a similar fundraising campaign that was conducted impacted 393,827 Malaysians that year!

We, a team of 18 fundraisers for this campaign,  aim to collectively gain RM 3000 or more in order to support NCSM and their services! So join me, as we join the fight against cancer by donating to this page! Every ringgit counts guys !

ps:/ The minimum donation amount is set at RM10 and once you are at the payment page, you are free to choose whether or not to include the 6.5% service charge incurred by GivingHub in the amount you donate.

For example: If you were to choose to exclude the service charge in your donation, you will be paying RM10 nett. However, take note that RM 0.65 will go to GivingHub while the remaining RM9.35 will go to NCSM. On the other hand, by choosing to include the service charge in your donation, you will be paying RM 10.65. In this case, RM 0.65 will go to GivingHub while RM 10 will go to NCSM.
