The Story

About Me and The Cause 

Hello! My name is Nur Shafirah and I am an 18 year old law student! I have decided join AIESEC TU in their 'Here For You' Cancer Awareness campaign.

Amongst many things which I am passionate about, learning is certainly one. Which to me, goes hand-in-hand with understanding what others may go through in their lives, particularly when it concerns battling life-threatening diseases. 

Latest Cancer Statistics

Did you know that Cancer is the fourth leading cause of death in Malaysia according to Study on Cancer Survival by Ministry of Health (MOH).

Based on a five-year report between 2012-2016 of Malaysia National Cancer Registry, cancer stood at 86 cases for every 100k male population, and 102 cases for every 100k female population.

Further, number of cancer cases detected at stage 3 and 4 has risen from 58.7 per cent (2007-2011) to 63.7 per cent (2012–2016).

This was accepted as worrying as findings also show that the later the cancer is detected, the lower the patient’s survival rate will be. 

NCSM

Therefore, I plan to support the National Cancer Society Malaysia (Persatuan Kanser Kebangsaan Malaysia) (NCSM) in the fight against cancer by prompting a fundraising page in conjunction with AISEC TU's ‘Together as One' campaign.

The NCSM is the first non-profit cancer organisation in Malaysia providing education, care and support services for people affected by cancer and the general public.

Why I chose to participate? 

It would be an incomprehensible yet incredible feeling knowing that my awareness on this matter can be glossed to the benefit of those in need. 

I grew up being so gratefully privileged that I live on the good side of disparities without bearing worries over the access to education or care. Unfortunately, a community out there does not share the same upbringing as I did. 

Not knowing what it is like to have someone so dear to me be affected by cancer makes me feel indebted to help ensure that others who do experience having a loved one diagnosed with such, receive the proper aid as costs for these treatments are far from affordable.

I also believe that if I get as many people to help me with this campaign, I can help raise awareness on cancer prevention which benefits our entire society.

By supporting this cause, you can help NCMS continue their operations which have been greatly affected for lack of funding consequent to the current pandemic.

By doing so, you would also be contributing to reducing the financial burden off the families of children affected by cancer.
