Hi! We are Derek and Stephanie, and currently, we are raising a fund for the refugees in Malaysia. We have come across with the inequalities of refugees in Malaysia, and we want to make a step in bringing equalities to them. We have realised how the refugees in Malaysia can sometimes be treated unequally or overlooked. As a human being, we are creatures that live in groups. We are should all treat each other the same way we treat our loves one. Empowering equalities is the way to make the world a better place, and let’s start with the refugees in Malaysia.
• Up until October 2020, The UN Refugee Agency recorded 178,450 refugees in Malaysia.
-> 153,800 are from Myanmar, and 46,730 of them are under 18 years old.
• Refugees are at increased risk of getting infected by the coronavirus due to the poor living conditions, sanitation, and insufficient food and water. Not to forget, overcrowding is a serious issue, especially with the ongoing pandemic.
• Due to the pandemic, some refugees have lost their job as some shops had to close down. The pandemic has affected them in various ways and not to mention, the children’s education.
"Refugee children in Malaysia are denied access to the formal education system, and thus obtain education via an informal parallel system of 128 community-based learning centres. " - UNHCR Malaysia
As a solution, We are planning to reais a fund up until RM600.00. The collected funds will be used in funding activities for the refugees, and the leftover fund gets to be donated to a refugee learning centre. These activities help the refugee children get proper education despite the ongoing pandemic. We plan to do some challenges once a certain amount of funds has been collected. Do check our profile for the interesting challenges. :)
