One Small Act, One Huge Impact - Food Donation Crowdfunding

The Story

Hi, everyone! My name is Zi Yi, a Year 2 Medical Bioscience student in Monash University Malaysia. I am currently a volunteer for the Clean Our Plate project under AIESEC in Sunway. The aim of this project is to change the perception of the public on the food waste issues which are getting worst during this pandemic. This project is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal (SGD-12), Responsible Consumption and Production, that promotes public's awareness on reducing food wastage. As a youth, this is a good chance for me taking an initiative to make a change and influence people around me to lend a helping hand to the needy communities. 

"Do you know there are 1.3 billion tonnes of foods are wasted each year globally? "

This figure is keep increasing especially during the MCO period. This is because everyone started to stock up their daily needs, particularly the food, as they think these products will be running out during this period. In fact, this panic buying situation had led to critical food waste issues in Malaysia as many of the surplus foods that were not consumed before the expired date were ended up in the landfill. Moreover, this pandemic also brought a negative impact to the underprivileged communities, in this case, the elderly and the disabled as they had received lesser donations and supports from the society. So, why don't we reduce food waste, save the world ,at the same time helping them? 

Thus, I am here raising funds to support the two beneficiaries: Beautiful Gate Foundation For The Disabled and Rumah Victory Elderly Home. 

The total amount of the crowdfunding （RM 800）will be divided into half and donate to each of the beneficiaries. The funds will be used to purchase their needs and sent to them (SOP will be followed). This fundraising campaign will be ongoing until 5^th Feb 2021. 

As the quote says, "Never underestimate the impact of small act", I always believe that a small action from everyone will end up to be a huge impact that is able to change the fate of the underprivileged. Let us work together to make the society better by showing kindness and loves to them! Your contributions matters!!!.
