My name is Charley and I am here to share you some good stuff !! 😋

Just like everyone else, I never really cared less about food waste until I realised how much of a negative impact it brings to the world after I got to be a part of a social project named Clean Our Plate, run by AIESEC in Sunway. Ever heard of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)? This is a project aligned with the SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production, that serves to create awareness and change public perspectives particularly youths in reducing food waste.

Why reduce food waste, you may ask?
Food waste has always been an ongoing issue in the world even before the age of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, more recently, the pandemic has shed light on the flaws in our food supply chains and created a disturbance in the food industry, resulting in a phenomenal amount of food waste. Little did we know, people suffering from acute hunger could double by the end of this year, whereas farmers and food producers deal with massive surpluses. Surplus food would then inevitably end up in landfills that get buried in the ground, releasing harmful Green House Gases that are hazardous for our health and wellbeing. 

It is shocking, yet a sheer truth for us to acknowledge and really do something about it. In support of this cause, at the same time helping the underprivileged communities to thrive amidst the pandemic, AIESEC in Sunway is supporting a crowdfunding initiative that helps raise funds for Rumah Victory Elderly Home that resides for 70 elderly people in Puchong. We aim to support the centre financially and provide the elderly a hearty meal despite hard times during the pandemic. 

Hereby, I would like to contribute to this initiative, not only to curb food waste but also to help people who are in need. Neil Armstrong once said, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”. I truly believe that if everyone contributes even a little, it is possible to contribute a big impact on the society - for a better future, a better world. 🌻✨
