The Story

Who am I?

Hi there! Greetings from Choon Huat here! I am currently a first-year student studying in Univerisiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Food Technology and Bioprocessing. I recently became a member of Partnership Development for AIESEC in UMS, and as its name states, I am responsible for finding partners that have the potential to collaborate with us to solve world issues. As of now, the partner that I am looking forward to collaborating with is none other than YOU. 

What is this?

This project is titled Nature Warrior 5.0. This is one of the initiatives launched by AIESEC in UMS to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This project focuses on SDG 14, Life Below Water. Through this project, we hope to:

• Protect and sustain the marine ecosystem
• Reduce water pollution in the Sabah ocean
• Sustain biodiversity of flora and fauna in Sabah

Why am I doing this?

As we are a non-profit organization, our funds largely depend on external resources. This fundraiser is one of the ways we use to help fund our projects and also to give people a chance to contribute to the SDGs. Let us face reality, the Earth is in a dire state right now and it needs everyone's attention and cooperation in order to make this planet at least sustainable for the next century. This is no longer my problem, nor yours. Everyone is equally responsible for contributing back to mother nature, no matter how small the contribution may be. So this brings us to the question: " If you are not contributing, then who will?"

Why should you care?

We are living on land, why should we care about the oceans? The oceans play a very crucial role in climate change and for humanity as a whole. Among them are:

• Acting like a big global carbon dioxide sponge that absorbs up to 30% of carbon dioxide
• Absorbed more than 90% of the excess heat in the climate system
• Over 3 billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods
• Marine fisheries directly or indirectly employ more than 200 million people
• Globally, the market value of marine and coastal resources and industries is estimated at $3 trillion per year

How can you help make a difference?

After all of that, you might be wondering:" I want to help, but I do not know where to start." Do not worry, we have a solution for you. You can help by just simply donating any amount of your desire to our project through this fundraiser. Do not feel embarrassed if you cannot donate much because you have already contributed and that is the only thing that matters. Remember, our project's success largely depends on none other than YOU.
