Hello there! I'm Vivian, an AIESECer from Curtin Univeristy (CU).
I have always had the desire to do my best in contributing to society. Before joining AIESEC, I often found it difficult to find opportunities to do so whilst juggling other responsibilities. Moreover in a pandemic situation, it is difficult to physically contribute whilst remaining socially reponsible. If you are able to relate to the struggle, this is the perfect opportunity for you!
So what is Speak Up?
Speak Up Borneo 8.0 is a project being held for the students of SMK Marudi in Miri, Sarawak. Due to the education quality gap faced by the students, many of them do not have the confidence to speak in English. This poses as an issue as English proficiency and STEM knowledge are two important factors of employability in the 21st century.
As such, based on SDG4-Quality Education, Speak Up Borneo is focused on solving the following:
Sure, but how?
Good question! These are some of the activities that will be carried out during the project.
#1: English Speak Up Workshop
Volunteers will deliver workshops to students regarding the importance of English, public speaking technique education and practice as well as Speak Up! public speaking assessment.
#2 STEM Speak Up Workshop
Volunteers will deliver workshops to students to enhance their understanding and application of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
#3 Incoming Preparation Seminar
Volunteers will have expectation and goal setting sessions throughout the projects.
#4 Train the Trainers
Volunteers will be given materials to train them to be more capable in preparing workshops.
So what are the funds needed?
> Project Cost [Laptop for the students]
> Administration Fee [Human Resource]
> Operation fee [Marketing materials and project materials]
Every little bit of contribution will result in a huge impact for the lives of these students!
