End The Struggle of B40 Community in Education during COVID19

The Story

Hey everyone, I'm Liang Jun and I wanted to share my connection to support the cause of Quality Education (SDG4). Personally, I agree that this pandemic has caused tons of problems for most people and we evolve rapidly in making education fully virtual. B40 students are the most vulnerable group that benefits the least from online learning platforms which I think we need to hold each other strong, especially for the B40 community who do not have the privilege to access high-speed internet or even computer devices. 

I'm just an ordinary student who wanted to support on bigger cause simply because I believe a small act of kindness is never wasted and we should contribute while we can! 
For every RM50 donated, 1 science kit is provided. We aim to provide a minimum of 1 science kit to each beneficiary. Donors that contributed RM20 or more are entitled to customize words to the B40 students, and we will send your kind words in postcards and the science kits to them.

THE PROBLEM

Most of the education systems in the world shifted to a full online learning method, either conducted in a synchronous or asynchronous method. Thus, making the traditional teaching and learning methods were no longer an option of learning method."

It is needless to say that the online learning method is a very interactive method and an excellent alternative to traditional learning in the current pandemic. However, certain subjects, such as Chemistry, Physics, and Biology, involved STEM Education, which requires hands-on experience to enhance students' understanding of topics. The hands-on experience here refers to conducting experiments that students cannot experience in online teaching. STEM Education mentioned here is the short form of Science Technology Engineering Mathematics Education. STEM Education is vital because English proficiency and STEM knowledge are two essential employability factors in the 21^st century. Therefore, here are several significant issues that require prompt attention of the Malaysian Education System:

1. Students' low English proficiency level due to the quality of national English language education.
2. Students' subpar performance in applying science and mathematics knowledge.
3. Lack of technological knowledge and awareness among Malaysian students.

THE SOLUTION

Speak Up project aims to improve the English proficiency and STEM knowledge of students. We plan to provide science kits related to STEM education for 26 beneficiaries from B40 students aged 16-17 years old in Perak. For every RM50 donated, 1 science kit is provided. We aim to provide a minimum of 1 science kit to each beneficiary. Donors that contributed RM20 or more are entitled to customize words to the B40 students, and we will send your kind words in postcards and the science kits to them. Hence, each donation creates 2 layers of impact: education and emotional impact.

Speak Up project also collaborates closely with NGOs, local youth groups, social enterprises, and local secondary schools to ensure each of the supplies is channeled to the students in need.

THE IMPACT

26 beneficiaries will receive 1 science kit each. Your donation will help in enhancing the STEM knowledge of secondary students in Perak. We hope that students in Malaysia will have quality education, and no one should be left out of this.

In addition, we believe that all of you that donated will be able to achieve your spiritual satisfaction by sending your customized postcards to the beneficiaries. Meanwhile, the students will be empowered and inspired by your kind words. 

Most importantly Speak Up project planned to donate 8 more science kits for every additional RM1000 on the original total amount of fund required! For example, the current total amount of fund is RM3,600.00. If Speak Up project can achieve another RM1,000.00, which means getting a total amount of RM4,600, Speak Up project will donate another 8 science kits to 8 more B40 students, which means the total science kit number increase from 26 units to 34 units.
