Hello, I'm Shi Yin from AIESEC in Penang, currently studying in USM. I'm enthusiastic about initiating culturally responsive practice in Penang youth.
This project aims to build awareness and provide ways to minimize food waste among youth and the community. Penang is famous for its cuisine, and food lovers can really find culinary heaven here. However, this part of Malaysia has seen a dramatic rise in food waste year by year. The rise in waste is due to perishables, such as cooked foods, vegetables, and fruits.
During the festival or night market, it is common to see half-eaten food everywhere. I feel sad as the consumers did not value the food, they ate only half of the serving then threw away the rest of it.
I believed that in order to solve this issue, people needed to change their mindset first. By driving self-momentum in understanding more the issues, youth could be part of the solution.
To uphold the real actions and having a clear mindset in youth, fundraising is essential to keep the project sustainable so that it could keep providing spaces for youth to realize own ideas to solve food waste issue in their community.
Understand it, then start to change it.
Start with themselves, then country, then the world.
